It's spring all year round in the World Financial Center's Winter Garden Atrium, a 10-story glass-vaulted pavilion that's home to a veritable forest of trees, plants and flowers.
The 45,000-square-foot space is also known for hosting free art exhibits, movie screenings, symphonies, concerts and ballets, and once was the site for a performance by the Big Apple Circus.
Like the World Financial Center, the Winter Garden was designed by Cesar Pelli and built between 1985 and '88. The Atrium suffered severe damage in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and received extensive repairs -- including 2,000 panes of glass, 60,000 square feet of marble flooring and 16 40-foot palm trees -- before reopening on September 17, 2002.
